Where have I been?
Well, I remember packing and then the rest is a blur until this evening. Not really, but that is kinda how I feel as I walk out of this haze.
The kids and I made the 7 hour journey to Huntsville, Alabama to visit the lovely new home of my fabulous sister, Debbie and her husband, Dean. Lucky for us my niece, Ashley and her little 2 year old, Alex were going to be coming for a visit as well! We have a fabulous time, and I intend to post more on that (with pictures) later.
The kids and I returned on Friday, getting home late in the evening. I had intended to get us unpacked on Saturday and then meet up with Aaron's parents for dinner at LaRosa's. Instead, Aaron and I decided it was the perfect day to purge and maybe... re-arrange furniture. For the record, we are crazy! So purge and clean we did! We also made it to dinner with the folks.
Sunday I awoke with some serious wheezing and congestion. We headed out to church, but it wasn't long after that both Madie and myself realized that we weren't feeling so hot, then so cold, then so hot... So we skipped the opening game of spring soccer to rest.
Monday brought the first day of re-entry. My return to UC, and the kids return to school with a new schedule. Jake and Madie need to arrive by 8:55, instead of 9:00. Not so bad... However, Noah needs to arrive at 9:45, instead of 8:55. 9:45!!! Which means that while Jake and Madie get out of school at 3:25, Noah doesn't not get out of school until 4:15!! I realize 45 minutes is not a huge amount of time, but to an autistic child, it can throw a wrench into their internal schedule and wreak havoc for a long time to come!
Tuesday was were I think I may have gotten up on the opposite side of the universe. My classes were great and I am looking forward to the subjects. I received an amazing letter of recommendation for the scholarship program, and it was a beautiful day. I was heading to meet Aaron to get Annika before he headed to work and there it was. A car coming to a stop upside down on the very curvy State Route 132. I put my hazard lights on, grabbed my keys and phone and ran. The passengers climbed out, screaming. The one girl didn't even have a scratch, the young man had a bloody face and was screaming at the driver to get out. As I and the few others who stopped circled the car the driver was expressing in a variety of ways that she wanted out of that car. She was more than lucid, and very actively trying to get out. I asked her a couple of questions about any pain, and had her move to be sure that removing her was a good choice. Although she was determined to get out whether I tried to stop her or not. I was able to use a knife that Aaron keeps in each of our vehicles in the event that we hit a deer. (I hate to see an animal suffer) I was able to cut her seat belt, and had to cut a portion of her hair since it was between the headrest and the roof of the car that was now pressing on the head rest. I lined some hoodie's and shirts that were now laying inside the roof of her car to line the frame of the window so she wouldn't cut herself on what was left of the window. Once again, she was determined to get out of that car. I don't say that I blame her, I would have been just as eager myself. After the professionals came and I was able to go, I proceeded with my day. But the bizarre wasn't over yet. The school decided to put Madie on a bus home. My kids don't ride the bus, they are picked up daily. I am not sure why they thought this would be a great idea, but they had to re-route the bus back to the school so I could get her. What a day! Totally not what I was expecting when I woke up.
Today is much better! I am feeling better, and less congested. I got lots of phone calls done, and set our Calendar for April. I got all my coupons caught up, and I enjoyed class. It was boring, and I am so thankful!!!
I plan on posting on some of the highlights of the Bama trip!! Check back!
